In response to
the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p039rd7g), perhaps we
need a different way to jump start the economy--something other than unpaid-for
tax cuts and giving away money.
Perhaps we need
an economy based on evolution rather than expansion, e.g. adapting and evolving
to avoid the obvious dire effects of climate change.
Think of change
rather than unsustainable expansion (growth) as the economic driver. Think
fewer people, a greener planet, and the economic activity needed to get there.
It has always
been such massive collective efforts that have rescued us from past economic
crises. Consider the US and the Great Depression. It was World War II that
saved us (the New Deal merely kept us going until the war came along).
